HIS 222 - Women in American History4 credits (Spring) Cross-listed as: GWS 222 . Focuses on the lived experiences of women from the American colonial period through the late 20th century. Attends to the tensions between gender expectations, gender performances, and gender identities, and their intersection with other identities and circumstances, such as race, class, sexuality, citizenship status, motherhood, employment. Considers how women have been excluded from full citizenship in the United States and how they have asserted agency, bodily autonomy, and their demands for full equality.
Prerequisite: HIS 100 or GWS 222 with grade S, C, or better; or second-year standing. Note: Not offered every year. Instructor: Lewis
