HIS 236 - Modern Britain and the Empire4 credits (Fall or Spring) This course examines the expansion and contraction of the British world order in the 19th and 20th centuries, and considers how modern British political institutions, social and economic structures, and cultural identities developed in a global context. Special attention will be paid to the evolving relationship between Britain “at home” and Britain’s empire overseas (particularly in South Asia).
Prerequisite: HIS 100 with grade S, C, or better, or second-year standing. Note: Plus-2 option available. Not offered every year. Instructor: Prevost
