FRN 348 - Fictions of Francophone African Cities4 credits (Spring) This seminar will take us to several Francophone Sub-Saharan African cities to consider the complex ways in which writers and filmakers have portrayed urban Africa. Through texts and films, we will focus on the challenges and possibilities that Africans cities create or deepen. In doing so, we will strive to understand the intersections of different forms of vulnerability, including gender-based, linguistics and economic vulnerabilities, and the role of fiction in giving them a voice. Taught entirely in French.
Prerequisite: FRN 312 or FRN 313 , with grade S, C, or better. Note: Plus-2 option available. Instructor: Tricoire
