GDS 295-01 - Special Topic: Political Ecology4 credits (Spring) Cross-listed as: ENV 295-03 . Political ecology is the study of the relationships between political, economic and social factors with environmental issues and changes. It uses interdisciplinary tools to integrate ecological social sciences with political economy in topics such as degradation, environmental conflict, conservation and control, and environmental justice movements. This course will provide an overview of political ecology scholarship with a focus on case studies ranging from climate change mitigation in the United States to biodiversity conservation in the Global South.
Prerequisite: Second-year standing required. Recommended: GDS 111 or ANT 104 , with grade S, C, or better. Instructor: Brottem
