SPN 295-01 - Special Topic: Constructing identities in XIX Afro Latin American Literature4 credits (Spring) This course examines the construction of identities in Afro Latin American literature during the XIX century. Students will become familiar with a rich literary tradition through autobiographies, letters, drama, and poetry. The course will focus on how Afro Latin American writers challenged the dominant discourse about them since colonial times with new representation of slavery and freedom, Africa, racial relations and miscenagenation, and spirituality and religion.
