POL 295-01 - Special Topic: Racial and Ethnic Politics in the United States4 credits (Fall) In this course, we consider the extent to which American political institutions perpetuate racial inequality through unequal representation, disparate civil rights protections, and unequal access to resources. We will also analyze how racial and ethnic group identity is created and its influence on political attitudes, how race influences Americans’ support for democratic norms and tolerance, and the effect of race on various forms of political engagement.
Prerequisite: POL 101 with a grade of S, C, or better. Instructor: Nava
