PSY 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Psychosocial Aspects of Pain and Pain Disparities

4 credits (Spring)
Pain is an urgent public health concern, and it presents a pernicious issue to solve, since it’s inherently subjective and personal. The subjective nature of pain allows for the influence of many psychosocial factors (e.g., doctor-patient communication, the influence of culture, experiences with bias and whether one’s pain will be believed and evaluated appropriately, etc.).  Moreover, immense pain inequities exist such that the adverse ramifications of pain fall more deeply on marginalized and underserved groups.

Prerequisite: PSY 113 , PSY 225 , and two additional 200-level psychology courses; with grades, S, C, or better.
Instructor: B. Ng
