GWS 395-01 - Advanced Special Topic: Trans Aesthetics4 credits (Spring) This course surveys foundational and recent scholarship in the vibrant field of trans studies, and places these critical materials in dialogue with cultural productions (like literature, film/media, and visual and performance art) that are either created by gender-nonconforming artists, writers, media-makers, and performers or that depict the lives of gender-nonconforming people. The course centers the intersectional dimensions of gender variance by examining its connections to race, sexuality, class, disability, mobility, and citizenship.
Prerequisite: GWS 111 with grade S, C, or better, and one GWS 200-level course with grade S, C, or better. Instructor: Torralba
