MAT 314-01 - Advanced Topics in Applied Mathematics4 credits (Spring) This course is a broad overview of two of the fundamental tools used in applied mathematics. In this course, we will begin by studying Asymptotics, which has been called the “calculus of approximations.” It provides a powerful tool for approximating the solutions to wide classes of problems, including limits, integrals, differential equations, and difference equations. Next, we study Perturbation Theory, which is a collection of methods used to find the approximate solution to a problem for which the exact solution cannot be solved in closed form.
Prerequisite: MAT 313 with grade S, C, or better. Instructor: Hebbar
