MUS 201-01 - Intermediate Music Studies: Musicking and the Posthuman

Musicking and the Posthuman. Are musicians necessarily human? How might nonhumans take part in music? What is the role of the technology continuum in human musicking? This course applies and incorporates posthumanist ideas to various musical sites as points of inquiry to explore poshumanism in our own musicking experiences as musicians, listeners, or anything in-between. From everything from whale-song to cyborgs, and Kraftwerk to virtuality, we will explore the role of music (and ourselves) in a posthuman world.
