SPN 320-01 - Cutlures of Spanish Speaking World

Environmental Justice Art in Latine and Latin American Communities. This interdisciplinary course explores the intersection of art, environmental activism, and social justice within Latine and Latin American communities. Students will examine how artists from these regions use their creative expressions to address environmental issues, advocate for marginalized communities, and envision sustainable futures. The course delves into various forms of artistic expression, including visual arts, performance art, literature, and multimedia installations. Students will analyze the historical, cultural, and political contexts that shape environmental justice movements in Latine and Latin American contexts, with a focus on indigenous perspectives, colonial legacies, and contemporary struggles. Students will undertake creative projects to explore environmental justice interests via various artistic mediums.

Prerequisite: SPN 285  with grade S, C, or better.
