SOC 395-02 - Advanced Special Topic: Black Radical Traditions

4 credits (Spring)
This class explores the many strands of the Black radical tradition, those who seek to fundamentally challenge dominant interlocking systems of oppression. Topics will include racial capitalism; identity politics and politics of coalition; art, music, culture, and resistance; critical moments of Black uprising; Black Marxism; racial formation, systemic racism and the white racial frame, and critical race theory; and racial ideology and counterhegemonic resistance. Students will conduct a professor-guided but self-directed project of their choosing.

Prerequisite: SOC 111  and at least 1 200-level Sociology class with grades S, C, or better.
