SOC 395-02 - Advanced Special Topic: Black Radical Traditions4 credits (Spring) This class explores the many strands of the Black radical tradition, those who seek to fundamentally challenge dominant interlocking systems of oppression. Topics will include racial capitalism; identity politics and politics of coalition; art, music, culture, and resistance; critical moments of Black uprising; Black Marxism; racial formation, systemic racism and the white racial frame, and critical race theory; and racial ideology and counterhegemonic resistance. Students will conduct a professor-guided but self-directed project of their choosing.
Prerequisite: SOC 111 and at least 1 200-level Sociology class with grades S, C, or better. Note: Plus-2 option available Instructor: Haenfler
