ART 295-03 - Special Topic: Gender and Chinese Art4 credits (Spring) This course aims to rethink both the representation of women and the actual art objects created by women from antiquity to contemporary China. We will investigate how images related to feminine subject were mobilized for various social, political, and religious purposes. The major themes are the construction of ideal womanhood, feminine space, woman as producer of art, and women and religion. The media that we will examine are painting, prints, embroidery, ceramics, and photography.
