MAT 195-01 - Introductory Special Topic: Functions and Mathematical Models4 credits (Fall) Mathematics is a fundamental tool for modeling real-world problems, from population dynamics to the spread of disease, from financial models of markets to understanding poll results. These models rely on core mathematical ideas – we visualize data with graphs and approximate data with functions, and then solve problems with precise mathematical reasoning. Students will develop skills with interpreting real world problems as mathematical statements, solving these problems, and interpreting the solutions.
Prerequisite: None. Open to first-year students only. Instructor: French
