POL 295-01 - Special Topic: Racial Attitudes and Behaviors in the United States4 credits (Fall) This class examines questions related to racial attitudes and behaviors, such as: what role does race play when people evaluate candidates for office? Do people trust representatives who share their race more than those who do not? Does improving racial representation in American political institutions really improve outcomes for those in marginalized groups? Topics will include biological racism, symbolic racism, stereotypes, prejudice, in-group and out-group dynamics, identity formation, intolerance, and the social construction of race.
Prerequisite: POL 101 with a grade S, C, or better. Instructor: Nava
