HIS 295-03 - Special Topic: Florence from Dante to Machiavelli

4 credits (Fall)
Between the mid-thirteenth and mid-sixteenth centuries, Florence experienced an explosion of wealth, political experimentation, and artistic and literary production earning it a prominent place in the history of Europe. Students will explore these developments, encountering famous figures like Dante, Boccaccio, Lorenzo de’Medici, Savonarola, and Machiavelli. But they will also learn about the lives of everyday Florentine people and explore the limits and contradictions of the famous Florentine renaissance.

Prerequisite: HIS 100  with grade S, C, or better, or second year standing.
