SOC 295-04 - Special Topic: The Sociology of Law

4 credits (Fall)
What do debates over DEI, immigration, Title IX, free speech, abortion, and trans bathroom rights have in common? The reveal how law shapes our everyday lives, both as a constraint and a tool for social order and change. This course explores major sociological perspectives on law, examining law’s role in social control, its relationship with society, the U.S. legal system, and legal mobilization. Students will analyze how law both reflects and transforms social structures.

Prerequisite: SOC 111  with grade S, C, or better.
