ANT 295-04 - Special Topic: The Anthropology of Gender and Sexuality

This course focuses on feminist concerns in contemporary anthropology for identifying the androcentric and ethnocentric logics in the discipline. We will analyze some of the key concepts of gender, as well as the way in which the uses of this category of analysis have been transformed. We will discuss gender studies in Latin America. We will study how gender as an analytical category can help us to analyze the social imaginaries of “being a man”, “being a woman”, or “being whatever we are” in different contexts.

Prerequisite: ANT 104 with grade S, C, or better.
