ANT 395-02 - Advanced Special Topic: Facets of Pain and Loss: language, expression, and meaning

4 credits (Spring)
This course explores how medical anthropology, and the medical humanities study the complexities of pain and loss and how these are experienced across cultures. We will interrogate how cultures live through and cope with physical, spiritual, psychological, or historical pain challenging ideas of a universal experience of suffering. In addition to ethnographies, we will read poetry, comics, memoirs, and other creative forms to explore how these mediums engage the complex facets of pain and loss.

Prerequisite: ANT 210  or ANT 280  with grade S, C, or better.
